Claire Elise Boucher (/bu:'SeI/ boo-SHAY; born 17 March, 1988), known professionally as Grimes is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, as well as a record producer. [2][3] Her early work is described as stretching into "lo-fi R&B" to futuristic dance-pop,[4] and has incorporated influences from electronic music hip-hop and rock. A lot of her songs touch to science fiction and feminist topics. The singer has recorded five albums. Grimes came from Vancouver but later relocated to Montreal. She began her independently-based music career in the mid 2000s. In 2010 she debuted two albums through Arbutus Records, Geidi Primes (and Halfaxa), respectively. Later, she signed with 4AD and gained acclaim with the release of its third studio album Visions In 2012. Visions includes the singles "Genesis" as well as "Oblivion" and was awarded the Canadian music industry's Juno Award for Electronic Album of the year. The album followed this and her album with her band, Art Angels, was released in the year 2015 and garnered the acclaim of critics, with several publications having have rated it as the top album of 2015. Sixteen years later, her fifth studio album, Miss Anthropocene, was out in 2020. Beyond the music industry, Grimes had a voice part in the online action-role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 and is a judge on the popular music competition game show Alter Ego.
